What is a Cleaning Cartridge?

It's very simple - it's an ordinary ink-jet cartridge filled with cleaning fluid instead of ink.

Why should a user clean using a cleaning cartridge?

Ink-jet ink is water based, and there is a cleaning effect in the ink itself. That is why you can run a cleaning cycle - which cleans the print head - with ink!

You would never use ink to clean your hands, would you?

1. Keep Printing At Peak Performance...

You have a pride in the output of your printer - you are printing photographs, quality documents and business presentations to impress your bosses, your customers and your friends. You use the best quality cartridges (ColorJet we hope!), you print on to high quality coated or photo paper and you need to be sure that your printer is performing to its best.

We recommend that you use a cleaning cartridge once every five cartridges. Microscopic particles will be flushed out with fluid, which penetrates more deeply then conventional ink

In this way your photos and presentations will look their best. So will others' impression of you!

2. Keep your printer more reliable

Your printer is a vital part of your computer system. It is also the permanent interface to the outside world. If your printer is not working well, then a vital part of your system is unavailable.

The print heads, whilst designed to last, are the parts of a printer most liable to fail. Regular head cleaning has been shown to extend print head life, even if most of your printing is text or general purpose output for your own reference or internal correspondence within your company.

3. Recovering blocked print heads

You find white stripes when you print. You run the nozzle test and there are missing lines - you have a blocked print head. You run three or four head cleans - cleaning with ink - and still the print head is blocked.

What can you do? You can carry on using your printer with a very poor image. You don't want that. You can call an engineer. If your printer is under warranty the printer will have to be sent to the depot, repaired and returned. You will not have it available. Or if you have an on-site contract you have to wait till the engineer comes. More than likely he will not have the right spare and you have to wait till he returns with a new print head. If the printer is not under warranty you have to pay a bill too. It is costly, and with no printer available you have problems. How many times has a busy executive or home worker in desperation gone and bought a new printer!

A solution is at hand. Use a cleaning cartridge - follow the instructions - and almost always the print head will be at its peak performance. No engineer, no bill, no waiting - especially if you keep a set of cleaning cartridges available.

A set of cleaning cartridges typically costs $/€27 (£16.50,DM51) and can be used by the operator. A print-head costs around $/€115 (£70, DM220) and has to be installed by a service engineer. Based on time and cost of consumables it will be easy for most users to justify the use of Clean! cleaning cartridges economically.

Of course we cannot always guarantee the result. If the print head has deteriorated so much that it cannot be recovered then we are afraid you will have to have it serviced. But that will be more unlikely.

4. You are changing your ink

You are offered a new UV-resistant ink, photo-optimised ink - or even edible ink. When you change it is very important that all residue of older inks are eliminated from the print mechanism. Then a cleaning cartridge is essential.

5. You are servicing printers, especially under contract

You are on a service call. Your customer will be satisfied if you unblock his print head quickly. And of course the cost will have been much less - especially if fitting a new head meant another visit.
